“YouTopia” live outside in Ft Greene for Make Music NY (video / pics)

Well we had a great time playing live outside in Fort Greene Brooklyn during the Summer Solstice for Make Music NY, even though they foiled our elaborate stage set up involving the statue of General Fowler and we instead played in front of Mullanes Pub / La Bagel Delight, we still had a great time. We promised a 90-minute set, but got a bit of a late start (we brought all our own stuff even the extension cords, PA, speakers, drum rug, everything!) and were cut off at 8pm so we didn’t get to play all of the songs we’d rehearsed for the show. Oh well, maybe some day we’ll do a 90 minute set but for the foreseeable future all of our sets will be under 30 minutes. Thanks to all of the people who watched us including our friends, Cecil Taylor, people doing their laundry, and these kids who have AMAZING DANCE MOVES to the song “YouTopia”

Live 90-min Summer Solstice Set on Fulton St June 21st 6:30pm sharp

Lame Drivers is looking forward to participating in Make Music NY, our local Fête de la Musique where 1000+ bands play live outside all over NYC in honor of the solstice. We really wanted to play on Punk Island or join the Wall St iPhone Jam, but are just as excited to be playing live on Fowler Square, at Fulton & Lafayette in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. We’ll be sucking electricity out of Mullanes Bar & Grill via our own extension cables, and borrowing our neighbors’ PA to play before the General Fowler’s statue and in his park.

The best part is that Lame Drivers have a 90-minute set, which is the longest set we have ever had. How will we fill the time? By playing 45 two-minute songs? Or 30 three-minute songs? Will we fill the time with banter? Or with wankery? We’re not sure, but we’ve been working on a lot of new songs and bringing back old ones, so we’re gonna make good use of the time. We would be looking forward to this even more if we knew that you, a reader of this blog, were going to be among the hecklers and passersby. See you on Tuesday at ~~7pm~~ 6:30pm on Fulton Street!

What to make of ANGELS IN AMERICA? Moppy Pont and Merv Glisten have a history of
producing self-released masterpiece microeditions which are then reissued. Their first tape, CUNT TREE GRAMMER, was rereleased on Ecstatic Peace in 2009; their second, ALLERGIC TO LATEX, on Digitalis Ltd in 2010. With each outing they expand their skuzz palette to take in a bit more, and NARROW ROAD TO THE INTERIOR is no exception; amidst its folds you’ll find dreamy squirts, nightmare emissions, skeletal instrumentals snaking dizzily over Moppy’s voice…no matter the canvas, nothing goes unsmeared.

Weyes Blood
Natalie Weyes Blood (originally Weyes Bluhd) has existed in the grime-ghost fringe-music catacombs since at least 2006, starting as a conventional folk singer in an unamplified universe, then transforming into a more a crouched/hieroglyphic electronic chasm style, culminating in a European tour with Axolotl. After two seasons of hibernation and a relocation to Baltimore, she materialized her ‘Blood In Bluhd Out’ evolution and began writing/playing the darkly haunted narcotic drifter ballads that make up The Outside Room, her first official full-length. The entire album was recorded, mixed and produced by Mering herself, then mastered by good friend Graham Lambkin. The record has shadows of The Shadow Ring in the oddly creaking ambient sounds and stark, nuanced production, which lend the eerily beautiful neo-Nico death-folk laments a more modern, art-skewed sheen. There’s still echoes of her old drone/tape-ghost-clouds moods on tracks like “In The Isle Of Agnitio” and the long, bells-laden outro to “Romneydale,” but the bulk of the LP is swooning and sweeping, with Natalie’s gorgeous, quasi-Teutonic vox leading the way. “A couple of my old bandmates from Baltimore, who I was in Teeth Mountain with, are doing a tour together where they are either doing solo sets or a collective set, they are Owen Gardner (Black Vatican, x-TM), Max Eilbacher (Needle Gun, x-TM) and Andrew Bernstein (Dan Deacons Ensemble, x-TM, etc.). They all do a bunch of other projects and are involved with High Zero in Baltimore and will be coming thru nyc that day. Anyways, you think there’s room to have them do a short opening set on this cakeshop show on June 13? Their tunes are rad and it would be a cool addition if you’re down.”
